We wrote this piece for Velo. Nobody from their desk rode the Delta Blues Edition — they asked us to write about it, and we did. Here is our week, in our words: five days, six host towns, and the argument every rider has with the idea that the Delta is flat.
The piece covers what the five days actually are, why day three ends inside the King Biscuit Blues Festival, and what the host towns are like when a few hundred cyclists are the most interesting thing to happen that month. It also gets at the thing that is hardest to explain before you come: nobody is timed, nothing is scored, and what replaces the number is finishing the week with a few hundred people who did the same five days you did.
